Micromethod for serotyping strains of Mycobacterium avium.
A rapid and economical micromethod for serotyping strains of Mycobacterium avium is described. Eighty-four of 91 strains representing 20 serotypes were successfully identified.
متن کاملIdentification of various serovar strains of Mycobacterium avium complex by using DNA probes specific for Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare.
Reference strains of the Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) belonging to serovars 1 to 28 were examined with DNA probes (Gen Probe Rapid Diagnostic System for the MAC; Gen Probe Inc., San Diego, Calif.) specific for either M. avium or Mycobacterium intracellulare. This study revealed that the earlier designations of the MAC serovars, in which serovars 1 to 3 and 4 to 28 were regarded as M. avium...
متن کاملMolecular Study of Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare Complex Strains
It is difficult to distinguish between clinically significant slowly-growing, non-pigmented mycobacteria, notably to separate M. aviumand M. intracellulare from one another and from M. scrofulaceum strains. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent to which 16S rRNA sequencing could be used to highlight the taxonomic relationships of the mycobacterial strains, which are difficult to ...
متن کاملMycobacterium avium strains resistant to clarithromycin and azithromycin.
Mycobacterium avium strains susceptible to clarithromycin and azithromycin contain mutants resistant to these macrolides with a frequency of 1.1 x 10(-10) to 1.2 x 10(-6). Cross-resistance between clarithromycin and azithromycin was demonstrated with mutants selected in the laboratory as well as with resistant strains isolated from patients. The susceptibility-resistance patterns of the macroli...
متن کاملClinical and prognostic importance of serotyping Mycobacterium avium-Mycobacterium intracellulare complex isolates in human immunodeficiency virus-negative patients.
We studied whether the serotypes of Mycobacterium avium-Mycobacterium intracellulare complex (MAC) isolates determine the prognosis for pulmonary MAC disease. We prospectively monitored a cohort of 68 patients with pulmonary MAC disease for whom the serotype-specific glycopeptidolipids in isolates were identified using thin-layer chromatography and fast atom bombardment mass-spectrometry in 199...
